April 20, 2004
At the end of March, Chris' sister, Jenny, turned 30 and there was a surprise party for her. Chris' parents came up for this and stayed the weekend. Chris' dad traveled the next Mon-Fri and then grandma and grandpa stayed for one more weekend. Chris' mom is back again now for a 3 week stay. The second week of her stay is when Craig and Chris will be in Phoenix and she'll be watching the kids along with Craig's mom. The other 2 weeks she will be here since Chris' dad will be doing more traveling. It's great to have the kids spending time with both sets of grandparents - especially since they don't live in town.
We went to Cedar Rapids over Easter weekend. Craig's family's church held an Easter party for kids that Saturday morning. There was a craft, game, story, snack, and an Easter egg hunt. The kids had such a great time!
We like to think our Easter miracle came on Sunday morning when we all made it out the door ahead of schedule at 7:40 am to head to church! We got there early to have breakfast then the service started at 8:30. The kids were pretty good (not loud), but they were pretty distracting since they decided to play musical kids between the 2 rows of family members. We definitely feel like they're still not ready to go to church with just the two of us - it would be quite a handful.
I'd say the biggest news of all is that the girls are pretty much potty trained!!! Halleluiah!!!
Since January we've seen a lot of improvements in the kids regarding potty training. On April 1st we decided to put the girls in underwear all day except for naps and bedtime. Kaitlyn had a couple accidents in the first few days and Megan has not had any accidents. They even poop and many times are dry after naps and in the morning. As of now, we are just telling them it's potty time every couple hours and they will go. They need to work more on being able to go without us telling them to go. However, they have done it a couple times on their own this week. Adam will usually go when we have the girls go, but his diaper will be a little wet. He doesn't seem to hold it as long as the girls do. Maybe this would change if we just went for it and put him in underwear too. However, it's a little overwhelming to be training 3 at a time so that's why we just decided to focus on the girls for now - they were more ready than Adam was. All in all, it's going very well and are thrilled to know that the diaper stage is almost done!
We are so ready for summer around here! We have been outside a lot but are still having some cooler days. The kids love playing outside and they can all pedal their big wheels now. They like to push their dolls in their baby strollers, run around the cul-de-sac, play with sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and all the neighbor kids. There are 10 houses on our cul-de-sac and after the last neighbors get moved in in May there will be 21 kids running around here! It's pretty crazy when everyone is out - but lots of fun - we really like all of our neighbors. The other thing the kids like to do is color! They ask to color a couple times a day and are really good at it! Megan holds her crayon the correct way too.
Craig and Chris spend their time monitoring the above-mentioned items. However, we do find time to get out of the house too. We each played on different indoor volleyball leagues (which are done now). Chris' sand league starts up around mid-May. Craig still plays basketball twice a week (Monday nights and when the kids nap on Saturday afternoons). At the beginning of the year, Craig went to work at the Principal Bank. He's no longer downtown (after 13 years of being there) but really enjoys his new position with Principal. Chris still stays home with the kids. No plans to return to work, yet. Next week Craig and Chris head to Phoenix for a week to visit Chris' sister/brother-in-law as well as some of our friends. It will be a nice time and we'll definitely be missing the kids around day 3 or so! Or maybe we'll decide to let the grandma's stay with them for an additional week!
